As an early career artist of French origin, Manon Steyaert continues to navigate her practice through colour-soaked realms, stretching the imagination with each new series. By developing her own visual language of succulence and sensation, Steyaert expands the ambiguous spaces between painting and sculpture.
Born in 1996, Steyaert studied Fine Art at Central St Martins in London before swiftly moving on to undertake MA Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, completed in December 2019. During these intense years of study, her painting practice grew beyond the constraints of the stretcher to manipulations of the painted surface.
Utilising silicone as her principle material throughout her practice, bringing an industrial material into the what Steyaert likes to refer to as “the limbo between painting and sculpture” . Her work, in increasingly subtle fashions, continues to bring together the gaze of the beholder and the physical presence of the painting in a dance of power and seduction.
