Tom Mead
Tom Mead graduated from UAL Wimbledon in Fine Art: Painting and now lives and works in London. The human form is a central focus in Mead’s work; the fractured and overlapping nature of his paintings convey a sense of lived-in space and movement over time. Film has a huge influence on Mead, to compensate for his self confessed lack of camera knowledge he tries to direct the scene in his paintings. This means planning a scene, composing the shot and deciding what would happen over a length of time. Utilising this aesthetic has pushed him to paint scenes he hopes encourages onlookers to question the emotions of the subject and their relationship to the environment he chooses to place them in, with themes such as identity and existentialism permeating throughout.
