Holly Brandrick is a visual artist based in Shipston-On-Stour, Warwickshire. Holly’s work is born out of a desire to make sense of the world around her; whether this be moments she witnesses, conversations she hears or unexpected emotions. The work is therefore an extension of her everyday life - drawing upon photos taken, films seen, things felt, stories read in order to create oil paintings that depict a world which is not too far from reality, yet still gives a sense of mystery. Narratives transpire through the characters and their unusual surroundings, often amalgamations of interior and exterior references, warping the viewer’s perception of the setting. The subject of her work is reflected in the layered imagery that allows these interwoven narratives to emerge, similar to that of a distant memory. Symbolism is a strong element in the work, with references to topics such as death, love, loneliness, religion and everything between that either connects or disconnects us as human beings.
