Fangying Lu

Fangying recently graduated from University of the Arts London with an MA in Painting, Fine Art. She is currently London-based and solely works with the medium of paint. She uses misplaced memories and dreams for her dreamy aesthetic in her work. Fangying conveys her feelings in her paintings through storytelling on the surface of the canvas. For example, the triptych Hiding and Escaping was motivated by exploring the link between a recurring dream and a longing from childhood. She created the watery application of paint in the three paintings to create a botanical, soft appearance which highlights her connection with the feminine. Fangying avoids having a clear subject matter in her work to allow the viewer an emotional connection and a space within which to allow their mood and mind to drift unconstricted.
