Suhaylah H
Suhaylah is an artist from London, currently residing in Ely, Cambridgeshire. She studied a BA in Liberal Arts (Major in Environmental Geography, Minor in Comparative Literature) followed by an MA in Comparative Literature at King's College London. Her background in these disciplines has shaped her practice in that Suhaylah is a compulsive note-taker in many forms: writing, sketching, collecting objects, recording sounds and images. Though these practices grounded in a very real love of walking and hiking, Suhaylah uses nature as a starting point for exploring the connection between material and immaterial worlds. In her ethereal, abstract landscapes, the natural world is constantly transformed and reimagined: trees descend into pools of water, reflections of rocks that appear more real than the object itself and phantoms connect eyes to plants. Steeped in symbolism, these dreamscapes often begin as a meditation on a disturbance in the water, an impalpable creature or an orb of light.
