Michele Fletcher
Michele Fletcher studied at Goldsmiths College (BA hons Fine Art and Critical Theory) and Chelsea, graduating from her MA in 2007. Her work was selected for the 2021 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition coordinated by Yinka Shonibare. Originally from Canada, Michele now lives and works in London. Fletcher considers her work process led, the paintings are built from the choice in palette and the first mark that she lays down. She relies on visual memory and an innate painterly vocabulary from which abstract organic forms emerge, working quickly in oil paint on an absorbent gesso ground, painting wet into wet. She prefers not to give meaning to the work whilst in the production phase and the titles are often formed after the painting is completed.
