Liliya Art Gallery is delighted to present Highlights of 2022 Graduates; a group show which brings together six contemporary artists who have graduated from London-based arts universities this year. Featuring carefully selected work to highlight the skill, originality, and technique of the new generation. We strive to support emerging artists and to strengthen the collections of our collectors. We believe in the value of emerging artists and seek to highlight their work at a critical stage of their early careers.
The artists address topics from the materiality of memory to the sublime. One of the exhibiting artists, Eloise Knight, sees the canvas as a space within which to entrap feelings of trauma, guilt, and regret. She turns these emotions into her visual landscape, thereby releasing these emotions from the internal to the external realm. This results in her deeply personal work having a suspended sense of the surreal.
The artist Danying Chen similarly uses personal experience as inspiration for her work, such as her transition to London as a child from China. She explores the impact of the culture clash she experienced as well as what it means to be a female artist in the modern art world.
Erica Hsu navigates the genre of the sublime by striving to create a sacred space between the viewer and her artwork. Her practice centres around the relationship between the physical and the spiritual with a focus on the sublimation of life and death.
We believe in the value of emerging artists and seek to highlight their work at a pivotal moment of their early careers by providing a platform to promote their practices. Each artist in the exhibition uses a range of different techniques to communicate their message through the mediums of sculpture and paint.
